Times ago we adjust with a screwdriver engines idle speed. Times ago we had to change burned out ignition contacts. Today cars are crowded with electronics for all that. If something goes wrong we have to visite a car shop. Or not?
Since introduction of OBD-II (also called OBD2, OBD-2 or EOBD in Europe and JOBD in Japan) in the USA for all cars after year of build 1996 and for cars with gasoline engine in the European Union since 2000 we have car computers with an unique diagnostic system for all car manufacturers. This was not the case before when each car manufacturer has his own diagnostic system for the electronic controller units (ECU) in the car and the customer has to go for diagnostics to the car shop of the car manufacturer.
| For the Do-It-Yourselfer, the small independant car shop, the gasoline station, and for all others which don't want to pay thousands for the brand diagnostic systems there is now a cheap solution for car diagnostics together with a notebook, pocket-pc or smartphone which you own already. (See Product-Overview). Without a PC or any knowledge about such devices you may use the handscanner AMX550 which also works with VAG and Daewoo cars without the standard OBD-II. |
